Mission Bay Plan
San Francisco Business Times - March 10, 2006

Sirna Therapeutics is dropping anchor in Mission Bay, the first tenant for the massive life science campus Alexandria Real Estate Equities plans to build there. The biotech, which moved its headquarters to San Francisco a year ago, will move its executives, research and development to 1700 Owens St., the first building Alexandria is constructing.

The 155,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed later this year, and Sirna will occupy nearly 40,000 square feet, according to Howard Robin, Sirna’s chief executive officer. The company’s manufacturing will remain in its Colorado plant.

While Sirna’s interest in San Francisco is not a surprise — the company’s eight top executives have been working from 185 Berry St. in China Basin since last year — the lease is significant because it is the first tenant to commit to the 2.1 million-square-foot campus Alexandria plans to build by roughly 2013.
