One Hawthorne San Francisco: Hawthorne’s Historic Charactero
One Hawthorne’s dominant downtown San Francisco location provides urban dwellers the utmost in convenience and transportation hub. Located at the corner of Howard and Hawthorne streets, the main entrance is on a charming tree-line street. Hawthorne Lane boasts one has downtown convenience while residing in a calm side street away from the hustle and bustle.
The history of the name Hawthorne is not known. Hawthorne is the name of a public elementary school and it is generally supposed that the honor goes to Nathaniel. According to some research, we do know is that Hawthorne Street was Hubbard Street up to around 1900. Seems unlikely that Nathaniel was the inspiration for that change. One only-local angel seems to be Hawthorne Furniture Company (1923) on New Montgomery. If they had a warehouse or perhaps started out on nearby Hubbard, that might account for the name.
Regardless of the origin, the street remains a charming side street with trees. One thing is for certain, it makes a great entrance for this 165-unit high-rise.
