SAN FRANCISCO (March 16, 2009) — One Rincon Hill, one of San Francisco’s newest landmarks and the tallest building on the skyline, was selected as among the world’s best tall buildings for 2008 by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Based at the Illinois Institute of Technology IIT in Chicago, CTUBH is an international organization sponsored by architecture, engineering, planning and construction professionals, designed to facilitate exchanges among those involved in all aspects of the planning, design, construction and operation of tall buildings.

The 64-story residential tower that makes up the first phase of the One Rincon Hill development was touted for its performance-based design, and was one of 28 buildings honored worldwide and one of five in North America. Joining One Rincon Hill in the North American region was the new San Francisco Federal Building. Finalists for the four regions were: The New York Times Building (Americas); 51 Lime Street, London (Europe); Bahrain World Trade Center, Manama. (Middle East/Africa); and, Shanghai World Financial Center (Asia/Australasia); with the later winning “Best Tall Building Overall” during a ceremony held in Chicago on Nov. 20, 2008.

Recently available is the book “Best Tall Buildings 2008,” published by the CTUBH in conjunction with the IIT and Elsevier/Architectural Press, which features the 2008 honorable nominees from each region, profiling each in writing, photography and drawings. To view, visit:

Recipients of the Best Tall Buildings honor must possess seamless integration of architectural form, structure, building systems, sustainable design strategies, and life safety for occupants.

“Each of these breathtaking structures achieves an exceptionally high standard of excellence and quality in its realization of built form,” said Tim Johnson, CTUBH Awards committee chairman. “They are models of innovation and creativity and are significant assets to their respective urban landscapes.”

Meanwhile, Magnusson Klemencic Associates, the Seattle-based structural engineering firm responsible for One Rincon Hill’s innovative performance-based seismic design, is currently a finalist for the American Council of Engineering Companies’ 43rd Annual Engineering Excellence Awards. In fact, One Rincon Hill and its development team have been honored for several other prestigious awards during the past three years, in categories ranging from engineering to design to real estate, such as:

Phase I of One Rincon Hill is nearing completion, with work finishing on the lush landscaping of the entire site, sidewalks and roadwork of the surrounding streetscape, and 14 luxury townhomes. The townhomes are connected to the tower with a picturesque Park Level, featuring a lap pool, reflecting pool, sundeck and grilling area, as well as an indoor hospitality room, fitness center and sauna. In April 2009, the One Rincon Hill Sales Center will move on-site into a townhouse at 489 Harrison St., #306.
