Mint leasing going well for Martin Building Co.

If there’s a downturn in San Francisco’s condominium market, Martin Building Co. is not feeling the pinch at its Mint Plaza project behind the Old Mint in SoMa.
The company, which is planning three large restaurants along the plaza, has made short work of selling — or at least securing contracts to sell — all but 12 of the 52 live-work condominiums above the restaurants after just three months on the market.
One-bedroom units recently went for $905,000 and $960,000, while a studio recently sold for $510,000, according to a sampling of sales from the developer.
The plaza development is scheduled to open in September.

The lease is quite a coup not just for Oakland, which has a low ratio of shops to residents, but also for East Oakland, which is even more under-retailed.
Fruitvale Station, a strip-style shopping center near Interstate 880 and Fruitvale Avenue, scored a lease from K&G Fashion Superstore, a low-cost arm of Men’s Wearhouse with 77 stores nationwide, but just three on the West Coast, all in Seattle.
