Castro set for building boom

A Bay Area Reporter article describing the coming development of upper market street.

“The Castro is on the verge of sweeping changes to its streetscape as new housing and retail developments are slated for nearly a dozen properties along upper Market Street. It is the biggest building boom to hit the city’s gay neighborhood in decades.

The development of new residential properties downtown is rapidly marching up San Francisco’s main thoroughfare, with a new loft project under way just north of the LGBT Community Center behind Zuni restaurant and a new 14-unit condo project set to open near the intersection of Church and Market streets. The developers of a planned 113-unit condo project with ground floor retail adjacent to the center, formerly the home of Sue Mills, hope to go before the city’s Planning Commission in late March or early April in order to break ground later this year. [Hayes Valley residents challenged the project's impacts on the neighborhood this month.]“
